12 Months of Bennett: Month TWO

In the second month of Motherhood my Bennett gave to me

two special treats

Whew. First month behind us. It was a joy, and a blessing, and actually kinda trying at times. We realized around week three that something just wasn't right. All of a sudden our angel baby woke up and realized he didn't feel very well. Being the insane researcher that I am, I diagnosed him with reflux. He had all the signs. After several calls to the doctor, a couple weeks of trying different diets (for me - since I was nursing), and a couple doctor visits, we decided it was reflux. The medicine started, and it got a little better. We still had grumpy time every afternoon (which is probably normal for any baby....but the reflux thing {aka SPITTING UP} made it much more difficult to deal with). Bennett wore a bib every day, over everything. Just go back and look at all his pictures from birth to about 6 or 7 months old. BIBS GALORE.

Now, on to these two special treats.Special treat numero UNO: As I mentioned earlier, our sweet loving and most definitely precious baby had a bit of an ornery side. I cherished all the HBT (happy baby times) and documented each of them with half a million pictures. He wasn't exactly the smiliest of babies. You hear babies smile in their sleep or because they are, um, passing something. Bennett did not. I just knew he was miserable and as a crazy hormonal first time mama, I just knew he would never smile. (Yea I said hormonal, but I also said CRAZY). So, when Bennett singled out that vent in the ceiling while visiting his great and great-great grandparents, and broke into a huge giddy smile, I almost cried right then and there. Tears of joy. That smile was the greatest gift (or treat) Bennett could have given me. So he IS happy. REALLY happy. I might just have a happy baby. JOY!

The next week, by Valentines Day, he had mastered the smile and began a now infamous affair with all vents in the ceiling. He loved those things and knew where to find them in each room. Don't judge. He was SMILING.This same week, my precious child gave Stephen and me, well mainly me, another fantastic treat. He slept from 10pm to 5am. Glorious!! I kept reading that reflux babies usually didn't sleep well until much later than normal babies. (Which evokes the question: what is normal - but that is another question for another day) So, needless to say, I was an extremely proud mama. After Feb 12th, every night was like that. by the end of the month, he was sleeping 8 to 11 hours a night. Heaven, and a heavenly break from not-so-happy-baby-times.We have a sleeper y'all.

During this second month, Bennett also had his first babysitters (Erin and Ben while Stephen and I went to the OOM's) and his first bottle (eww!! didn't like it). I got the hang of nursing and loved all those special times with him. We were getting to really know each other and our family life was beginning to get used to this new "normal."Bennett has given us so much, but

In the second month of motherhood, my Bennett gave to me

Two special treats,
and a family of two becomes three.
EDITED TO ADD: Thank you lovely sister of mine for pointing out a horrendous misspelling. YIKES! Blogger spellcheck is NO good. Thankfully, this post is all good now.

  2. Natalie you are so creative! I LOVE reading your blog. We just found out yesterday that Anna Reese has a really mild case of reflux. Not very fussy, but a LOT of spitting up!
