In the Third month of Motherhood my Bennett gave to me
three frazzled nights
Of course, with any new baby, there are much more than just THREE frazzled nights. But in this third month of Bennett Michael, I had three memorable ones.
One was a friendly last minute Junior League meeting, when Daddy was busy with work so Mama had to take Bennett with her. Little did mama know that she was to give a speech of sorts to her Provisional class concerning the class volunteer project of the year. And, little did mama know that Bennett would give her a good lesson on The Art of Frazzle on that particular night. (Click The Art of Frazzle for a more in-depth account of that insane night...loyal bloggers I think you remember...) I left that meeting in embarrassment, extreme discomfort, and generally just in an elevated state of frazzle. Oh sweet Bennett.
The second frazzled night, or really couple days, was Bennett's overactive reflux experience. He never was a projectile kind of guy, just preferred to open his mouth and let go of about half his bottle every once in awhile. However, on this particular night/two days, I had to use THIS as his "burp rag." I didn't write anything else in a post concerning that night, probably bc I was SOOOOO over it and had no desire to rehash the experience in words, but no doubt I remember it vividly. Me changing clothes approximately 4 times that day; Bennett going through his whole closet before I just let him be naked-baby for a day. The house was covered in towels, our living room rug was covered in Carpet Cleaner, I was covered in stench, Bennett was just being Bennett. And in the midst of it all, I loved him for it. Despite the stench. Despite the frazzle.
The third night of frazzle, or slight agony in this case, was the night I had to finally crawl into an ice cold bath on an ice cold night to relieve my 104.1 fever. It is all documented HERE. I had insane, bed-shaking chills, crazy burning body from the fever, pain, and what came to be diagnosed as Mastitis. I pray for all you new mommies, that you shall be mastitis free. That you shall nurse in harmony and un-interrupted peace. NOT fun. Makes one slightly frazzled.
So, despite what all these peaceful sleeping baby pictures may imply,
During this third month of Motherhood, my Bennett gave to me
three frazzled nights
two special treats
and a family of two becomes three.
i can't help but sing the last three sentences :-)
