I talked to Bennett's doctor today and they said I can put Bennett to sleep on his tummy!!!! (I was still concerned about this flat head thing - He is never on his back at all during the day, and I dont think it will matter or change anything once he starts "sitting up more" as everyone says - bc the truth is he is still going to sleep flat on the back of his head 11 hrs a night and not move. So sitting during the day wont change this! (my opinion))
The doctor said as long as Bennett can lift his head up, or roll over, (check and check) and as long as there are no blankets or toys he could bury his head into, then it is fine to place him on his tummy at night. I still can't believe I got official "from the mouth of the doctor" permission to do this! There is just such stigma surrounding this whole topic these days, which I completely understand and have supported from day one, but now we must move onto another issue and that would be avoiding future needs to meet with specialty doctors, take xrays, visit the idea of the helmet, etc.
Ill let you know how it goes!
Oh, and Bennett will be enjoying a special, um, treat (?) in a bottle today....diluted prune juice. Poor thing.

ReplyDeleteI remember being so excited when we could finally put Mary Selwyn on her tummy! She is a terrible sleeper so any bit of help we can get is always nice. This worked for a while until she could stand up in her crib....but boy were those days nice. I think B will enjoy sleeping on his tummy!
