Crazy blog nite

Stephen is at a dinner tonight, so I am doing some serious blogging if you can tell. Ive been meaning to record all the songs I sing to Bennett, so that one day these songs wont be lost. I have only heard most of them from my mom, and I now find myself singing these same songs I grew up having sung to me. There really isnt an "order" to these songs, but I still sing them in the same order, probably bc this is the order my mom sang them to me and they just seem to flow this way. Probably going to sound weird with me just typing the words without the music, but here goes anyway:

1) My bonnie lies over the ocean,
my bonnie lies over the sea,
my bonnie lies over the ocean,
so bring back my bonnie to me.
Bring back, bring back, oh bring back my bonnie to me, to me.
Bring back, bring back, oh bring back my bonnie to me.
2) Someones in the kitchen with Dina,
someones in the kitchen I knoooow,
someones in the kitchen with dina,
strummin on the ole banjo.
Fee fie fiddly-i-o, fee fie fiddly-i-o-o-o-o,
fee fie fiddly-i-o, strummin on the ole banjo.
3) oh i love to go a wondering,
along the mountain trail,
and as i go i like to sing my knapsack on my back.
va-ler-e, va-ler-ah, va-ler-ee, va-ler-ah ha ha ha ha ha
va-ler-e, va-ler-ah, my knapsack on my back.

and then i have found recently that whenever bennett is in an all out screaming fit, if i sing this he will stop immediately (no joke) and listen to me sing the whole song: (it was the first song i sang him when he was itty bitty and i know he doesnt remember it, but maybe he recognizes it more than the others)
4) hush little baby dont say a word, mommas gonna buy you a mocking bird.
if that mocking bird dont sing, mommas gonna buy you a diamond ring.
if that diamond ring turns brass, mommas gonna buy you a looking glass.
if that looking glass gets broke, mommas gonna buy you a billy goat.
if that billy goat wont pull, mommas gonna buy you a cart and bull.
if that cart and bull turn over, mommas gonna buy you a dog named rover.
if that dog named rover wont bark, mommas gonna buy you a horse and cart.
if that horse and cart fall down, youll still be the sweetest little bennett in town.
(my mom sang it to us as "daddy's gonna buy you" but since B is a boy, his momma will buy him those things :) Im sure if we ever have a girl, her daddy will then take over the role of buyer)

and another oldie but goodie my mom would sing:
5) Lullaby and good night, with roses bedight
With lilies o'er spread is baby's wee bed
Lay thee down now and rest, may thy slumber be blessed
Lay thee down now and rest, may thy slumber be blessed

c'ept i usually sing it this way, bc i didnt know the real words until i just looked it up:
lullaby, and goodnight, with roses delight, and lillies be decked, this is baby's sweet bed, and then rest is the same. who knew i was such a song butcher! makes me want to go back and check numbers 1-4 just to make sure i am singing them right. ha

also:
6) an amazing grace/Jesus loves me/Jesus loves the little children melody that i learned at camp when i was little
7) "If you want me to" by Ginny Owens. Not exactly relative to my situation while singing to my child, but that song has always been my comforting song during times of trouble/uncertainty/pain, etc and i know every word so it works well
8) hes got the whole world
9) "baby mine dont you cry" song. I know lots of different people sing it, but i always sing the Bette Midler version from "Beaches" (shout out to Candice for showing me that movie in 7th grade!)

and Bennett LOVES music... sometimes instead of singing i turn on one of his CD's and we just rock and listen to it (Bennett has recently become mesmerized by the CD player and will prop himself up and stare at it, try to grab it, etc). His CD's:

and a Spa relaxation CD the Easter Bunny gave me. Yes he still comes. :)

sorry that was probably boring but like so much that is on this blog, its really on here for record keeping purposes; its just a fringe benefit that other people like to read about it! :)

  1. William goes to sleep every night to several rounds of "Hush Little Baby." Its the sweetest thing. He will say "shu-sha" for hush, and he is sooo happy! I am sure I will sing it to my baby too :)

  4. So I figured out what I have been saying in "Hush little baby." I was singing "And if that diamond ring don't shine, momma's gonna buy you some turpentine." And that's where I would get stuck. I thought turpentine was odd. :)
