30 weeks?? WHAAAAAT?

SO, realistically Bennett will be born in *9* weeks....??!! That is, of course, unless he decides to come sooner. I say 9 weeks (not 10) because Dr Helen will induce a week early, and I do not see any reason why I would decide NOT to induce on or around January 8th (if he lasts that long in the womb - it really is all up to him). 1-8-08 does have a nice ring to it though (and is pretty easy to remember - like I will ever forget my child's birthday, but you get my point).

From Babycenter.com:
"Your baby's about 15.7 inches long now, and he weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds him, but that volume will decrease as he gets bigger and takes up more room in your uterus. His eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keen; even after he's born, he'll keep his eyes closed for a good part of the day. When he does open them, he'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means he can only make out objects a few inches from his face.
You may be feeling a little tired these days, especially if you're having trouble sleeping. You might also feel clumsier than normal, which is perfectly understandable. Not only are you heavier, but the concentration of weight in your pregnant belly causes a shift in your center of gravity. Plus, thanks to hormonal changes, your ligaments are more lax, so your joints are looser, which may also contribute to your balance being a bit off. Also, this relaxation of your ligaments can actually cause your feet to spread permanently, so you may have to invest in some new shoes in a bigger size."

(note: I just changed every "she" in that excerpt to "he." Funny that it used to not bother me (Babycenter alternates each week from "he" to "she") but it does now!)

Also, as some of you know we have had some delays and complications with our Crib and Dresser. We ordered them, then found out that the crib would be in (to the manufacturer) mid November and the dresser would be in around mid December. This means they would hold the crib until the dresser is ready, then ship them together to Siegel's Babys Room in Mobile, and they would arrive late December/early January!!! Cutting it a bit close I'd say. I panicked for a sec, then decided that this really was the furniture I wanted and I was not going to order different furniture that I had to settle on just to get it in on time. So we have been thinking Bennett would possibly be sleeping in a little cradle and being changed on a bed or something until his furniture arrived. (Not really that big of a deal - but I still realllly want to have it all in and ready for him when he comes home!!)

Well, just got a call from Siegel's and good news - the owner talked to Child Craft (the manufacturer) and they are expecting everything to ship to Siegel's in early December (so hopefully we will have everything mid December!). And Child Craft is actually not closing for Christmas until they get everything shipped out that is in their warehouse, so in case there is a slight delay, we should still get our stuff right in the nick of time! Whew.

Pictures of Bennett's crib and dresser -to be:

The dresser on the left is what we bought - the bed is what his crib could eventually turn into, but we will just use it as a crib for all of our children (then maybe one day use it as a bed if needed).

P.S. ENJOY these last weeks of pregnancy, because as much as you want him to be born, you will miss being pregnant once he is here!!

  3. Woo-hoo Nat!!! 30 weeks is a HUGE marker! I was induced at 39 weeks too, there are so many perks to an induction, you get your own dr. and the nurses are on a new shift rather than tired/cranky people in the middle of the night. Everything just felt nice and controled and as predictable as a first baby/mama can be. It will be even nicer if he comes sooner but it is great to know you have a date! I just can't wait to meet that boy!
His bed and dresser are great looking! So glad you'll get them on time, these things are important to a mama!

  5. I am so thrilled about the furniture timing! Now, aren't you glad you decided to order what you really wanted? Bennett will be looking good in his new digs! Of course, he will rarely be IN his bed because he will be in someone's arms all the time! Can't wait! Love ya!
