what do you get when you cross 31 "professional naive mobile women"; two friendly, fierce, and recently spray-tanned men who do styling {i think} with dillards; and the ronald mcdonald house?
you get the mcmodel.
not to be confused with the other "mck"- lady we know out there who has a blog and lots of kids and calls them all variations of mcdonalds food items. definitely not to be confused with her.
this past thursday i shredded all awareness of self-identity and strutted my "stuff" for the first ever "little black dress" event benefiting the local ronald mcdonald house.
i most surely did.
and just so it is known, this is way out of my comfort zone. anything in the name of charity, right?!?!??!
i mean, i can get up in front of a crowd with barely a nervous thought and "public speak".
but "public walking" in six inch heals, more makeup than i have ever even imagined one could apply, and fake blue hair "inserts" draws a little more than one nervous thought.
good thing the "liquid courage" was flowing freely backstage.
how did i get wrangled into this? i had been in contact with the marketing director of my dad's clinic to sponsor an autism awareness festival i am volunteering for. after pledging to be a sponsor, she quickly took the opportunity to ask if i could help them with another event they were sponsoring. i quickly informed her i am no model. she assured me this wasnt for "typical" models but for the average gal. my mom encouraged me to do it and, after responding with a quiet "ok" i was thrilled to learn a few friends were also mcwalking down the catwalk with me in the name of charity.
the event actually was quite exhilarating and fun. i liked the dress they put me in, {except the bottom didnt bubble like that, it was fitted to my knees}
the shoes were terrifyingly high
and i had this kind of stuff in my pile-of-curls hair
wild i tell you, WILD.
i only fell out of my shoes three times, even after rolling loads of tape onto the heels of the shoes. and when i say "fell" i thankfully dont mean carrie bradshaw faceplanting fall {although i was SURE that was what would happen}....and im linking to this video and not inserting it due to the language in the video....again, family blog, so watch at your own discretion!
by fall i just mean nearly tripped as my heel popped out of the death-defying shoe. i know it might just look to some like your ordinary "special occasion" shoe, but it was {obviously} quite the adjustment for one used to wearing one of these everyday
everyone really had a great time, and the fact that i had family and friends there to cheer me on gave me that momentary boost of confidence to keep walking and not turn around and run for the hills.
a few grainy camera phone pics...but you get the idea ;)
it was a great event and another one of those "things" i can mark off my list: been there, done that.
i mcmodeled.
now its back to mcmommy-ing* ;)
*which has kept me very busy recently due to numerous illnesses {another reason for the blogging absence}. we finally broke down and went to the doctor today and bennett has: an ear infection in his right ear, congestion in his right lung, rivers upon rivers of yucky nose goo, and slight infections in both eyes. technically, the doctor said its "pink eye," but he doesnt have the red, veiny, itchy eyes as one would imagine accompanies a pink-eye diagnosis. just lots of goo. and he probably infected them himself from wiping his nose across his face so much. {TMI??? welcome to the mommy-ing part of this blog} anyway, hes on the pink stuff and very excited to be taking "medicine. benney woe allllll better."
i do hope he feels "all better" very soon.
bennett says "me too."
and i will take pictures.
soon, when his face isnt a pile of goo.
noone {but his parents} would choose to see that kind of face.
