...pita
i have found a way to get bennett to eat sandwiches. its not that he wont eat them, bc hello my child is the human trash compactor. he loves bread, mustard, turkey, cheese, all the fixins. he just likes to separate them all and make a plum stinkin mess all over my kitchen. that was just mopped. so lets mop AGAIN.
see...i dont like that pattern too much. so, i tried pita bread.
and VOILA! the boy eats sandwiches. cause he cant GET to the stuff. he tried, but gave up and took to eating it like a big boy pretty quickly. kudos benetian.

...mosquitos
goodness it itches me just to say it. i mean who opened the cage and let those pesky fellas out? one known curse of living in the deep south, and i mean deeeeep south, is the mosquitos. we even have them in the winter. just maybe one mosquito per backyard (and they always find me). in the summer, however, you cant walk outside without coming back inside with no fewer than 5 bites. (in this case, "you" refers to ME...i dont technically know about everyone else).
i have a hate-hate relationship with these creatures. you see i am allergic to insect bites (mainly stings - bee stings send me to the hospital, bites just welt up and itch and redden for weeks). i also, unfortunately, am addicted to lotion.
take my word for it - the two dont mix. since the mosquitos are out in full southern-summer force, i am at a lack for fun activities with the bman. he is an outdoor-sy type of guy, and i am a no-mosquitos type of girl. and bug spray can only do so much. anybody got any suggestions for summer activities that help avoid the BUGS?

...nutella
so i dont know what rock ive been under, but it must be a pretty big one considering i had never heard of this stuff before. well, i guess technically i have heard of it, in passing perhaps, but never even knew what it was. so on a grocery store whim, i bought some. and today, several weeks later, i found it and tried it.
ummmmm YUM
it is the most deliciously sweet nutty chocolatey spreadable slice of heaven and i think it must become a staple in this house. bennett and i had an after-lunch snack of pita bread and nutella (that pita bread is good for more than sandwiches i tell you - use it as crust and make yourself a mini pizza. mmmmmm).
so, moral of this story ....try some nutella. on some pita bread. and for heavens sake, stay away from the mosquitos.
now i leave you with two pictures from this time last year. just bc they, too, are the most deliciously sweet nutty chocolatey spreadable slices of heaven.
{hint: for an even bigger bennett rush, click the picture and make it really big. then sit back and bask in the bald toothless wonder that my toddler once was}
Natalie he has grown so much in a year! Can't believe it! Hope to see you soon! Love you, Mary-Margaret
ReplyDeleteNat - I am also a mosquito magnet and was recently informed that placing a dryer sheet in your pocket repels them. I haven't tried it yet (there aren't a lot of mosquitos in austin), but it can't hurt to try?
ReplyDeletehope all is well with you!
molly
so i have been informed by my mosquito attracting friend of these coiled bracelets you can wear to repel mosquitos. also, theres this fan thing that you can attach to your belt (or waistband) that fans away the bugs with some type of insect repellent. might be something to look into.
ReplyDeletei have never tried nutella either but Giada from food network loves it. bring it to the beach this weekend so i can give it a wirl.
bennett is going to be so in tune with finer foods. he's so cute in those pics too:)
Can't wait to try out Molly's trick...can I cut a mini square to put in Rose's pocket too? And yes, I have had Nutella, and I agree that it is heavenly!
ReplyDeletewhen i saw nutella in your title i thought you were kidding... i've heard of it but never tried it. surely it isn't healthy? but if u will eat it, i'll give it a try. haha
ReplyDeleteTwo things for mosquitos:
ReplyDelete1. Hang a gallon zip lock bag filled with water from a light post or something around your house. It's not the most aesthetically pleasing home decor, but we did it at my cousin's when we were there last week and it seemed to help...your mobile-mosquitos are TERRIBLE!!
2. Spray listerine around the area you are in while outside that repels them as well. Hope that helps!!! Good Luck:)
I must be under the same rock, I hadn't heard of that either! Will try though..yumm! Love the pics...just precious
ReplyDeletei use nutella!! in a fabulous recipe...shall I share? I'm still strugglin' with combining pita and nutella. bleh...
ReplyDeleteyes, the ziplocks abby was speaking of are all over LuLu's in Gulf Shores. Those varmits are seriously getting in the way of the great outdoors with the B man! I have already noticed.
lovin' your reflections :)...
and y'all XOXOXO
hahaha thanks for all the no-mosquito suggestions. surprisingly enough i have actually tried many of them (bracelets, dryer sheets).
ReplyDeleteyall are the best!
oh and janice (mom) its the only thing i had to try it with! (it said to use it on wheat bread, croissants, bagels, english muffins, etc.) pita was the closest thing
bennett approves :)
and honestly, i just didnt know any better....
I love nutella on warm pound cake... vanilla wafers.. from a spoon! It's fabulous.
ReplyDeleteDoes Bennett drink from a specific kind of sippy cup. I'm trying to slowly ween Reese and am not having much success?
Natalie, I, too, hate mosquitos! However, I LOVE Nutella! We discovered it in Italy by accident! Now it is in our cabinet all the time. I use it as I would peanut butter--great in cookies! Love ya'll, La
ReplyDeleteIf your friend Molly lives in my same Austin (TX), then the reason she doesn't see many mosquitos here is because they are ALL at my house just waiting to pounce on me the second I step out the door. And like you, they even find me inside- all seasons of the year. I'm going to see my allergist about possibly getting some shots to help. Won't stop the bites I bet, but might help the reaction (I also get enormous welps that are oh-so-attractive!). I'll let you know what he says.
ReplyDeleteAnd Nutella...that goodness is the blame for the 10 pounds I gained while backpacking through Europe the summer after college. I think over there it has its own food group!
