well, for the FIRST time bennett is actually sick and its not just his "teeth" or "teething." i cant tell you how many times i have taken bennett to the doctor when he has fever, runny nose, grabbing ears, etc...just to have the doc say that he is "healthy as a horse." oh wait, i can - he has seven teeth so i guess its been seven times.
good news he is not sick, but seven x copay gets pricey. anyway, bennett woke up in the middle of the night thursday with a dirty diaper and felt a little warm when i put him back down. two hours later he woke up with a high fever and just seemed puny.
friday was OK...but he started developing a cough. he took two afternoon naps and when he woke up from the second one, he just looked wrong. pale, sunken eyes, and still had a 101 fever. last night, he was pretty much awake on and off all night, for the first time since he started sleeping through the night at 6 weeks old.
i went in there three times. gave him tylenol and changed his ultimate crib sheet (thank goodness for those things) and glided while he fell asleep on me, then cried when i put him back in his crib. runny nose, fever, cough, cried every time he coughed from his throat hurting, chest congestion, yuck.
took him to doctor this morning, ruled out the flu (yay!) breathing sounded bad so went to hospital for chest xray to check for pneumonia (boo). no pneumonia! (yay!!) but very sick baby with a bad cold virus (accompanied by a rash on his torso - doctor says sometimes cold viruses come with those...). his fever really broke for the first time this afternoon and he reminded me of a crazy rascal we once knew, but generally he has been doing this
since friday. he actually fell asleep on his daddys legs in this exact position before we went to the doctor. he hasnt just fallen asleep like this in the middle of everything since he was 4 months old. he literally sat and snuggled in my lap for two straight hours while we were doing "doctor stuff," and was perfectly content to do so. i have to say, i was too.
but, im ready for my little rascal to be up and running again. tomorrow is palm sunday. needless to say bennett will not be sporting his two piece smocked froggy outfit with big collar and green buttoned-on shorts with knee socks and will not be waving one of these
down this
with all the other precious babies tomorrow at church.
i am sad.
for bennett and the froggy outfit.
isnt this a pitiful sight? but a sweet little pitiful sight...
