Kidney Update

Oops! I realized I have been negligent in updating everyone on Bennett's kidneys. I have received many emails and posts asking how he was, and have been a *little* busy and have not remembered to update!

The morning after Bennett was born, he had an ultrasound to look at his kidneys. A urologist (a partner of the urologist we were planning on Bennett seeing) checked them and said there was a slight amount of fluid in his left kidney (his right kidney was normal). He said it was not enough to be worried about, and said we should come back in a month at have two studies done to check and see the cause of his fluid retention. This was very good news and we were relieved.

A few days later, when I was in Babies R Us, I received a phone call from Dr. Terry (Bennett's original urologist and the father of one of Stephen's and my good friends: William). He said he looked at the ultrasound and really did not see a big problem at all. He said he did not think it was even necessary at this point to do the studies. He said to come back in three months and we will re-do the ultrasound. Dr. Terry believes that this fluid is either a)going to fix itself in time or b)just the way that kidney works for Bennett and nothing to be worried about!

If for some reason his kidney gets worse when we have the check up, we will then look into doing the two studies. But for now, it is something I don't even think about and am very happy for that fact! :) Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers, and we will keep you updated!
