From Babycenter.com:
"At 4 1/2 inches long (head to bottom) and 3 1/2 ounces, your baby is about the size of an avocado. In the next three weeks, she'll go through a tremendous growth spurt, though, doubling her weight and adding inches to her length. Her lower limbs are much more developed now. Her head is more erect than it has been, and her eyes have moved toward the front of her head. Your baby's ears are close to their final position, too. Some of her more advanced body systems are working, including her circulatory system and urinary tract. Her heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, circulating her total blood volume through her body many times. (By the end of your pregnancy, this will increase to about 190 quarts.) The patterning of her scalp has begun, though her hair isn't recognizable yet. Although closed, her eyes are moving (slowly), and she's even started growing toenails."
Somehow, over the course of a week, the baby has shrunk from softball size to avocado size, according to two different sources (the book i read each week said at 15 weeks the baby was the size of a softball). I guess these comparisons are all relative and it really depends on the specific baby. For now we can just stick to the fruits!
Tomorrow is my 16 week appointment, and Im not expecting anything too exciting, except for hearing the heart beat again, which is always fun! I will also get to schedule my next ultrasound, which will hopefully be in two weeks (week 18). This should be the Ultrasound where we find out what exactly little baby Roe is! Hopefully heshe will cooperate!!! No more of this "it" talk. Who am I kidding, everyone seems to be referring to it as a "she" reagardless!! ha.
Seriously though, if what they say about cravings, etc is true, then I think I may be having a boy. I have never been one for salty snacks (chips, starches, pretzels, etc etc) but I have been recently! Ill quickly turn down a dessert for some pita chips or chex mix (evidence previously posted). I guess we will find out soon enough if those old wives tales are correct! Stay tuned :)
