Hello everyone! Well, today was my second appointment, and Stephen and I were seriously hoping I would get an ultrasound. However, I found out upon arrival that insurance usually only covers 2 ultrasounds during pregnancy, unless there is something medically wrong or the doctor has worries about the baby. The first is to determine pregnancy, the second is for an anatomy scan usually around 18-20 weeks. At my last appointment, (at 8 weeks) my doctor had to leave the office to deliver a baby (imagine that!) so all of her patients had to wait a loooooooong time to see her (including me). By the time I was able to meet with her for the first time (this was my first time to see Dr. Rogers: I knew that when I got pregnant I wouldn't be seeing my previous doctor, she just didn't scream "maternal" or "positive" or "caring" or any of the other qualities one may desire in the professional who is to be delivering their baby.), she only had a couple minutes to introduce herself and see if I was feeling ok before she had to go check on all her other waiting patients (it was already after 5pm).
So, I went into this appointment really knowing nothing, and having no idea how "these things" usually work. Lots of people I know had Ultrasounds at 12 weeks, or somewhere around there. I just supposed they would want to do an ultrasound since it had been 4 looooooooooong weeks since they had last seen the baby. I mean, theres a lot that happens between 8 and 12 weeks right? Or at least these were the thoughts running through my head. :) Sweet Stephen, who was of course there with me, left after we found out there wasnt going to be an ultrasound. We were both a little disappointed, but we really had no idea what to expect - we are a little new at this!!!!
They did draw a heck of a lot of blood though, and those of you who know me well know that needles and I dont usually mix. I mean I dont exactly go screaming underneath my moms chair while using her purse to defend myself from the evil needle-yielding doctor anymore. But I do choose to look the other way and have been known to grimace a bit. I think thats a big step.
When I did get to meet with Dr. Rogers, she pulled out the fetal heart monitor and we were able to listen to our little baby's heart beat again!!! That was the best sound!! It hovered right around 161. Strong and healthy! :)
My next appointment will be at 16 weeks, and then I will come back in at 18 weeks to have the Ultrasound. Cant wait! More updates to come!!
